Deer Valley Recap 12/20:
Freshmen put up a great fight until Deer Valley drained a few 3s down the stretch.
“Tyra Miles had a career night off the bench, delivering a game high of 16 points and 5 rebounds to pace the DE JV Girls basketball team to a 47-33 win over Deer Valley
High School. Christina Sausedo added 12 points for the Scorpions (7-1) with Anysia Gallegos putting in 7 points and Aysa Wills chipping in with 6 points on the night. The Scorpions expanded their lead to 14 points after doubling up Deer Valley
in the third quarter. Baskets from Christina Sausedo and Aysa Wills coupled with a fast break layup from Tyra Miles spearheaded a 14-7 DE Scorpion run and a 36-22 lead to end the third quarter. Bench Scoring was a huge factor in the contest as the Scorpions scored a Season High 30 points. Kaleah Etu controlled the boards for DE, and the Scorpions converted on 17 of its free-throws. The Scorpions had seven players in the scoring column.” Coach Hughes
The Varsity team defeated Deer Valley to start region play 1-0.
Arcadia Tournament Varsity Recap 12/27-12/29:
The varsity team won their first 3 games of the Arcadia tournament, defeating Gila Ridge, Cactus Shadows and Arcadia. Then their 11 game win streak came to an end against Marana Mountain View in the Semifinals of the Silver Bracket and we also lost the 3rd place game to Ganado.
Mesquite Recap 1/4:
The Freshmen won their 1st game of the season last Friday at Mesquite. Kayla, Marisa, and Kaleah put in most of the points. The ladies played a great team game, tallying many assists throughout the night.
“Christina Sausedo scored a game-high 22 points, and the DE JV girl’s basketball team kicked off the new year with a 52-42 win at Mesquite High School on Friday night. The Scorpions forced Mesquite into 10 turnovers, turning them into 15 straight unanswered points, as they outscored Mesquite 20-4 in the second period. Mia Hernandez nearly matched her season high in points as she chipped in with 9 hitting on 1-2 from 3pt range. The Scorpions had eight players in the scoring column as their defense down the stretch ultimately put the game away. The DE JV girls next host Cactus High School which is set for Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m.” Coach Brent
The #6 varsity team lost to #4 Mesquite 36-47. After taking a 7-point lead early in the 3rd, the Scorpions allowed too many second chance points from the Wildcats and struggled offensively down the stretch. Karina tallied a double-double.
Tomorrow night, the ladies host Cactus, the 2x defending 4A West Valley Region Champions.
