Girls Varsity Basketball · Lady Scorpions Take Home the Win

Thursday night (1/24/19), we played at Cactus High School.
Frosh Recap:
“Last night against Cactus the Freshman girls were ready to play and came out and scored 12  points in the first quarter of the game. The girls were playing solid defense and Marisa Hogan and Kayla Cervantes were able to get a handful of steals and push the ball down the court. Unfortunately, in the second quarter we only scored 2 points however, we were still up by 1 point at halftime. Coming out after halftime the girls were very playing great defense and not letting Cactus score any easy baskets. At the beginning of the 4th quarter the girls had a few turnovers that led to easy scoring opportunities for Cactus. We were down by 5 with 2 minutes left when Kaleah Steele got a steal and passed ahead to Kayla for a layup she was fouled and made the free throw. With about 1 minute left  we fouled the other team and they made 1 of 2 free throws. With less than a minute left now we had a few chances to score but could not convert. The girls did a great job and are getting better with every game. Leading scorer for the night was Kayla with 11 points.” Coach Engle
JV Recap:
The JV team defeated the Cobras.
Varsity Recap:
Varsity raced out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back on their way to a 65-47 victory over Cactus. We were hitting 3s early (4/6) and scored a program record 42 points in the half, without pressing. We were also sinking our FTs throughout the game (29/39 FTs for 74%). We maintained the lead and withstood small runs from the Cobras to secure the win. It was a great TEAM win.

Kiara 13 pts (3/3 3pt, 4/5 FT)
