Varsity Recap: Coach Lovely

Last night your #21 Scorpion boys basketball team (12 – 11) traveled to play region opponent the #5 ranked Peoria Panthers (13 – 3).  In what proved to be a long night the Scorpions fell for the second time in competition to Peoria 76 – 41. The Scorpions have 2 must win games remaining in the season and are poised to make the playoffs.
JV Recap: Coach Johnson
So here’s a riddle how does a team commit 35 turnovers, miss 11 layups, miss 7 FT and still win by 12.  If you happen to see a JV player  maybe they can answer it for you because I’m still confused.
The Scorpions controlled the game for the entire night never trailing in the game. They were able to force more than 20 turnovers to offset a lot of mistakes. The Scorpions provided Peoria with a steady dose of standout big D’mari Johnson down low providing us with 24 points on the night. We also got big games from guards Dom Bednarz ( 9 points ) and Freshman Amahni  Hunter (8 points).  If I had to pick a player of the game I would have to go with sophomore forward Jaden Campbell.  Jaden scored 9 points had 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and 4 steals it seems as if he always had his hand on the ball.
The Final score was 66 – 54 bringing our record to 12 – 4 on the year.
Freshman Recap: Coach Day
Last night was another hard fought game against another top freshman team in the region Peoria. Our Edge freshman played them till the final play again using their defense to keep themselves within reaching distance. Helping us all game were timely scores by Amahni Hunter and Matt Willis. In the end we came up just short falling 61 – 58. This puts us at 11 – 5 for the season for two left to go.
Top performers:
Matt Willis 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals
Amahni Hunter 26 pts, 7assists, and 2 stls
Grant Parks 11 rebs and 3 blocks.
Next up for the Scorpions is the road trip to region opponent Lake Havasu on Thursday 1/31.
